In a House Made of Glass (2022) is a short dance film using the motif of windows and glass to explore the idea of reflection, fragility, and transparency. The film was based on my original poem, "In a House Made of Glass," (2020). This project lived in my brain for quite some time before I actually executed the film, because I really wanted to capture the essence of what this work means to me. This film speaks to the fragility of human relationships and is deeply personal to me. Starring my incredibly talented friends and classmates from Boston Conservatory, Mabel White, acting and narrating, and Emma Hourigan, dancing.
This film was inspired by a poem I wrote in the summer of 2020. The poem evokes a specific imagery in my mind, which is what I wanted the aesthetic of the film to be. I wrote this poem in a time when I felt trapped, both physically and mentally; however, the feeling is translatable across so many different frames of mind, so I hope every viewer can resonate with these words. This film is incredibly important to me, and I am so happy that I was able to bring it to life and share it with the world.
you can’t slam the doors in a house made of glass
your careless actions could disrupt the precarious balance
there’s no privacy in a house made of glass
you can see through the transparent facade of guarded secrets too easily
sometimes the walls blend into mirrors in a house made of glass
too hard to decipher the mistaken transparency of your own reflection
you mustn’t stomp in a house made of glass
the pressure of a misstep is enough to send the walls shattering down
in a house made of glass there are enough shards of glass to puncture wounds
into the delicate hands of the maker herself
and destroy her prized possessions so elegantly disguised
in a house made of glass.
