Filmmaking is a way to bring my visions and concepts to life and communicate my artistic voice. Through film, I am able to bring movement to life in a way that seamlessly blends dance and conceptual storytelling. I use my films to portray personal ideas that fit into a wider context. My goal is to create work that has universal appeal and relatability and illustrates how impactful dance is. I believe every viewer can find a piece of themselves in my work and take away something that resonates with them.
Time is of the Essence is a short dance film exploring a contrast of vintage and modern and slow and fast paced, experimenting with the “essence” of “time.” Starring Mar Rivero and featuring Your Gold Teeth by Steely Dan.
impressions is a visual representation of our perceived realities and the impressions they create upon us. Drawing inspiration from the Impressionist art movement, it contrasts the natural and the artificial by highlighting moments of self-absorption in comparison to interconnectedness. Both playful and profound, with a taste of camp, let this quartet of vignettes speak for itself and leave a lasting impression.
lucid is a short dance film illustrating the idea of where our subconscious mind goes when we are dreaming. It aims to create the feeling of a liminal space, and create a tone of anxiety and aims to make the viewer feel uneasy. lucid urges the viewer to question the parts of their minds they don't understand and how that plays into their identity.
Gallery is a short dance film made for my sophomore dance composition class final in collaboration with Bridget Suchar and Justine Schmaltz. This site specific work, set at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, aims to create a playful and jaunty look into a world of color and art. Featuring the song Gladys by Lionel Hampton.
Exposure is a short dance film that invites the viewer to question what it means to be perceived by the people around them. This film serves to create a representation of our inner self and our public image. Created as a response to my film, Someone is Always Watching (2022), Exposure poses the idea that "no one is ever watching." It plays on the juxtaposition of voyeurism and exhibitionism, and questions if being seen in the public eye is exhibitionist, if being seen is not the intent. Read more
Contrast is a short dance film about the idea of femininity, complexity, and authenticity. I wanted to capture how the essence of feminine energy differs from the way that women are perceived by society. Featuring the song, Devil's Advocate by The Neighbourhood, the film was inspired by the imagery of classical antiquity. Read more
In a House Made of Glass is a short dance film using the motif of windows and glass to explore the idea of reflection and transparency.
